Master Scuba Diver Course

Course Overview

The course is a continuing education certification course for divers who wish to gain the in-depth knowledge and experience that will distinguish you as a leader in any diving club or group. Emphasis is on student participation and practical application of knowledge in open water after a classroom discussion of subjects. Some subject areas are a review and expansion of material from previous

courses. Thrill to the adventure of open-water dives in settings that will test skills and expand your diving capabilities and experience. Your success allows you to proudly carry the most coveted and respected certification card in recreational diving – the NAUI Master Scuba Diver card. 

Course Topics

In the Master Diver course, you will review and expand your knowledge about previous topics, such as...

  • equipment,
  • dive physics,
  • physiology,
  • medical aspects,
  • fitness,
  • dive safety,
  • the diving environment,
  • deep/simulated decompression diving,
  • limited visibility or night diving, and
  • search and recovery.

Prerequisites

The NAUI Master Scuba Diver course is for certified divers who desire additional training or orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. Divers must be a minimum of 15 years of age, in good health, and must be previously certified as a NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver or the equivalent. 

Requirements

There are required classroom sessions, confined water sessions, online home study sessions, and a final exam. Participants must have their own personal dive equipment (fins, booties if using open heel fins, soft weights, mask, snorkel, wetsuit-optional). New Orleans Scuba will provide a BC, regulator, and tank for use during confined water sessions. 


During training, students will engage in a minimum of eight open-water dives, including the following required dives:

  • Emergency procedures and rescue
  • Deep/simulated decompression diving
  • Limited visibility or night diving
  • Underwater navigation
  • Search and recovery – light salvage

The other three required open water dives will be based on activities chosen by the student with the assistance of the Instructor. When possible a variety of dive sites will be utilized. You may choose from many different dives for your elective dives, such as:

  • Skin diving
  • Environmental study or survey
  • Air consumption (practical application)
  • Boat diving

Course Fees

The course fee is paid upon signing up for the course. Additional expenses include fees associated with the required eight dives for certification.
